Copyright refers to the protections of one's works and intellectual property. Copyright can be applied to any piece of work a person creates and have a copyright symbol applied to it. A copyright can be obtained legally, with the copyright symbol, or through a separate Collective Commons license. The Collective Commons license is like a copyright in the ownership of intellectual property, but it also specifies how the author allows it to be used. This can be specification like use only with attribution, only with non-profits, or with no changes to the original work. Fair use is similar to copyright, but it refers to what and how much of a piece of work is being used. Fair use applies to nonprofit or educational purposes. The amount of the piece of work depends on the creator and how the use will affect the creator.
